In the series, artificial intelligence (AI) creates a virtual reality called the Matrix to harvest humans as an energy source, keeping them alive in capsules. The energy signals emitted by their brains are collected and used by machines to sustain their operations, resulting in a dystopian world where humanity exists as living “batteries.”
